1970

	1st January 1970 is the date from which this website takes an interest in public transport within Thurrock. London Country comes into being, and became part of the National Bus Company, having previously operated as part of the London Transport network, bringing Green Line with it. Bus services are also provided by Eastern National, another National Bus Company operator; rail services are operated by British Rail, owners and operators of the Tilbury to Gravesend ferry service on the river Thames.


	On 25th March 1970, a press release was issued detailing the new logo to be adopted by London Country; “the new motif represents the green ring around London in which London Country operate, and naturally suggests wheel movement. The angled bars give a feeling of perspective, suggesting operation in depth with a hint of ‘transport amidst green fields’ ”.




			That seems like a rather optimistic description !!

	Decimalisation of the UK currency occurred on 15th February 1971 and was often referred to as ‘D day’. London Country decided to hold off decimalisation on it’s buses until 21st February 1971 ‘to allow sufficient decimal coinage to circulate’ - unfortunately the plan didn’t go too smoothly as the old coinage virtually disappeared within days.

	August 1974 saw the RC class at London Country’s Grays garage, which operated on Green Line route 723, transferred to Hertford garage; replacements came in the form of coach seated Leyland Nationals.
