1980

From August 1980, KPJ244W - KPJ256W, Roe bodied Leyland Atlantean double deckers,
replaced Bristol VRT’s on London Country’s route 370. All of them stayed at Grays garage,
including under successors County Bus & Coach Co., British Bus and Arriva until they were
withdrawn in 1996.

October 1980 saw the new Transport Act become law. This act removed many of the
restrictions that were in place affecting long distance express services and excursions. One
such example in the Thurrock area was the X1, a joint operation between Southend
Transport and Reading Transport.

	From August 1981, Green Line route 723 was extended from Aldgate to Victoria.

	371 Route 371 ran from Romford to Grays, then via Little Thurrock & Tilbury and back to Grays. 377 Route 377 operated Mon - Sat early morning & late evenings, and all day on sundays (Tilbury to Grays only).


	From 12th September 1983, Green Line, together with Eastern National, introduced route 722 which ran from Corringham to Marble Arch in London.

	1984

1st April 1984 marked the introduction of route 795 (Southend to Brighton), which passed through Thurrock, and was jointly operated by Southdown, Eastern National, Green Line
and Southend Transport. Southdowns involvement only lasted until January 1985.

April 1984 also saw the introduction of Green Line Route 721, linking Tilbury with Marble
Arch. As a consequence of new route 721, route 722’s shopper journeys were withdrawn
leaving just peak hour workings.

	371 Route 371 ran from Romford to Grays, then via Little Thurrock & Tilbury and back to Grays. 377 Route 377 operated Mon - Sat early morning & late evenings, and all day on sundays (Tilbury to Grays only). 795 Joint operation by Eastern National, Green Line, Southdown and Southend Transport.

LNB69 (NPD169L), a Leyland National, was transferred to London Country’s Grays garage
from it’s Reigate garage in September 1984 for a school contract. This vehicle went to
Eastern National in April 1985, to be converted into a ‘disabled persons bus’.

October 1984 saw the introduction of free buses to the new Tesco store in West Thurrock,
operated by London Country. As things turned out, the Tesco contract stayed with Grays
garage until it was withdrawn completely in 200? whilst being operated by Arriva. Initial
services were:
