October 25th 1990 was quite a significant date for bus companies in Thurrock - it was the date Lakeside
shopping centre opened. It was the largest of it’s kind in Europe, though it’s since lost that title - that said,
combined with the retail park, it is now the largest shopping area in a single location in Europe.

Many bus routes were diverted or extended to the shopping centre, and it certainly rejuvenated bus travel
within Thurrock.
