London Country was created on 1st January 1970, formerly being the green area of London Transport. Green Line was a London Transport brand, and came with London Country - so it was often the case that London Country vehicles were seen on Green Line routes if coaches were unavailable.
London Country also became part of the National Bus company from 1st January 1970, as provided by the Transport Act 1969.
London Country was by far the biggest operator of bus services in the Thurrock area, running from the massive Grays garage, located on the corner of Hogg Lane & London Road with the office buildings on London Road incorporating a public enquiry office.
Bus deregulation in 1986 saw London Country prepared for sale into private hands, the first stage being to split the company into four areas - Grays became part of London Country North East. London Country North East was sold in 1987, to AJS Holdings, who set up County Bus & Coach Company and Sovereign Bus; to find out what happened next, visit the ThameSide page.
